You Want to Welcome Your New Employee

These sample employee announcements allow you to welcome your new employee graciously and publicly. The employee announcements tell coworkers what the new employee will do and his or her job title. The employee announcements let other employees know who will mentor the new employee.

The employee announcement may tell coworkers something about the new employee, but it can be as simple as announcing that the new employee is starting and the date. You may also mention where the employee will work and suggest that coworkers stop by to greet the new employee.

A couple of facts about the new employee will give the employee's new coworkers the opening and the opportunity to start conversations with the new employee about common interests. Something as simple as saying the new employee loves their two Fox Terriers will give their current workers the chance to connect (dog owner Terrier lover, and so forth.) This is the first step in team-building with your newest member.

The best new employee announcements also share the employee's work location and how other employees can reach him or her. The very best share a picture so employees can recognize the new employee when they see him or her.

Ask the Employee to Share Interesting Facts About Their Life

A positive way to introduce a new employee is to share a paragraph the new employee has written that expresses three-four interesting tidbits about the new employee that will also draw in coworkers.

Does the employee love cats? Share it. Does the employee participate in 10k+ races? Share it. Does the employee volunteer in the local food kitchen? Does the employee feed birds, collect old baseball cards, or refinish furniture? Again, share this information so coworkers can connect.

The new employee will not share information that they are uncomfortable sharing with their new coworkers. This gives them the opportunity to share facets of their lives that they are comfortable sharing. This makes entering their new workforce more comfortable for them.

You are providing ways for your current employees to connect with the new employee. They are more likely to reach out to a new employee with whom they share an interest.

The employee announcement is also an opportunity for new coworkers to think about how their jobs will interact with that of the new employee. You can send these employee announcements by email to all employees. Make sure that you post the employee announcement in any department where employees have no email access.

Following is a simple, sample new employee announcement that is emailed to the whole company when the employee starts their new job.

Dear Staff:

Ann Thompson is joining Mediquick Products to fill our open position in customer service. Her first day is Tuesday, April 8.

Ann has worked for a number of years in customer service and we are delighted to welcome her to the Mediquick team. If you see Ann around the building, make sure you welcome her to the company. She will participate in employee onboarding activities for her first couple of weeks on the job.

Ann's new employee mentor is Mark Veja, so if you have questions or need to meet with Ann, you can talk with Mark before she starts.

Ann will work closely with other customer service specialists. She will work in the customer service department wing. Take a moment to stop by and welcome Ann to the company.

She has a lot to share with her new coworkers as she loves cats, square dances weekly, and volunteers in a local homeless shelter. She is on the Board for our local Women's Resource Center.

Thanks for joining me in welcoming our new employee, Ann to the team.

Regards,

Catherine Lee

To: All Staff

Dear Staff:

I'd like to introduce James Gonzalez who is starting at Johnson's as a product specialist on May 1. John will work in the marketing department where he will report to Sherri Howell. His job responsibilities will include coordinating all marketing services for the xx product.

He'll work with the product development team on all aspects of developing the product through launching the product in the international markets.

We've hired John to carry out our new vision of how product development needs to involve making a business case and market for the product before we make a single widget. This gives us the opportunity to see what potential customers really want and need before we build products.

John has worked in the area of bringing products to market for two different employers during his career so far. He is enthusiastic and excited about our new approach that will involve him very early in the product development cycle, an approach he believes will revolutionize our sales.

John's degree is from LaSalle University where he majored in marketing and minored in business.

Join me in welcoming John. He'll work with the other product specialist, Mary Robertson, who will serve as his official mentor. You will find John in the office right next to Mary's in the marketing wing. I've attached John's picture so that you will be able to recognize and greet him.

You can reach John on extension 543 and he spends a lot of time in AIM as johngonzalez222. He's also an enthusiastic player of all sports so let him know who needs a team member.

Regards,

Jerry Lee
Department Manager

Remember that welcoming and announcing a new employee before they arrive for day one of their new jobs is a warm introduction to the company and your staff. The new employee will feel special and important—just what you want your new employee to feel when he or she starts their new job.
