The connectedness of the online world allows employees and employers to redefine relationships constantly. Being an HR dinosaur, disconnected from the new challenges of the electronic world, will give your company trouble as you maneuver the world of your employees and prospects.
In a recent story, at HMV, the company Twitter account was taken over by employees as their employment was terminated. They live tweeted the experience as they were fired.
Since removed from the company's Twitter stream, the stream of anti-company tweets is a lesson for employers. When you fire or lay off an employee, with electronic communication so simple and easy to reach, make sure that you have worked with your IT department, prior to the meeting, to remove the employees' access to your company accounts.
It also reminds that social media policies and practices are changing as fast as the media itself. Take a moment and make sure that yours covers the current Web landscape.
