Video Resumes

Sunday June 17, 2007
My new lead article focuses on some of the issues an employer will want to consider when deciding whether to accept video resumes. Honestly, as time passes, and the practice mushrooms in this YouTube world, it may cause you more trouble to send them all back, than to view the videos of qualified candidates. But, I have considered viewing video resumes from several perspectives and provide some research. I trust you'll find my new article helpful. Video resumes exist in our future - whether we want them or not

They're a nice supplement to the work you already likely do in researching candidate credentials and backgrounds on sites such as Google, MySpace, LinkedIn, and Facebook. A simple Google search on your candidate's name can yield descriptive information that informs your hiring decision. Not using the Internet to review candidate credentials and potential company culture fit? Hmmm, where have you lodged your hiring practices and background checks - not in 2007, that's for sure.

So, while only 17 percent of employers have received a video resume link for an applicant, be prepared for the "soon-to-happen" deluge of the future from the YouTube generation.
