Share the Worst Job You've Ever Had

When I was 18 years old, I worked in a daycare center for young children from birth to kindergarten. I was given the opening shift at 6:30 am so families could drop their children off before work. Most of the children dropped off at that time were babies or very young toddlers. They would cry and cry when their parents left. There I was, all alone with 6-10 screaming, crying little children for an hour before the next person came in. I had to change their diapers, keep them occupied and try to stop them from crying all by myself. It was the worst job I ever had, which is why I only lasted 6 weeks!

What Made This Job Your Worst Job - Ever

The pressure was incredible, especially since I was by myself for so long being responsible for these poor little children. It was hard to take care of so many of them at once! Believe me, there were many mornings I wanted to cry myself!

Tips and Tricks

  • I would ask for help. I would tell the people running the daycare that having one person alone with all of those young children at that time of the day wasn't possible. The kids were traumatized by being left by their parents with someone they didn't know very well. I would have suggested having more people and more structured activities to help them get through it.
