Share the Worst Job You've Ever Had
In the old days when I was a young singer trying to make it in the recording field most of us hopefuls in Los Angeles went around to all the many independent record companies that flourished along Sunset Blvd. leaving our singing demos hoping to be chosen some day to actually make a record. One day I got a call from a small company called The Fable Label. "We've got a possible song for you to record," they said. "Come down and sing for the songwriter and we'll go from there." Apparently, the songwriter, an extremely overweight Negro woman from Tennessee was instructed to pick her favorite singer to record her song.
What Made This Job Your Worst Job - Ever
Well, the song-writer picked me to record the song. I was told to go home and learn it and return the next day. They did not give me any music whatsoever. I was given a tape of this woman singing her songs. There was no melody and the lyrics made no sense. This was ridiculous. The next day, I returned to the company and told the people in charge that the material I was given was absurd and I was simply told to make something up and SING IT! This was the worst job I've ever had to do in all my singing days. But, I did it and I did my very best. I was paid a modest fee - and I never heard from them again. The victim was the poor songwriter who paid a fortune to have the record produced - a record that went nowhere.

- If I had it to do all over again. I simply would have refused to make an ass of myself. If one is going to do anything in this world better to do it right or NOT AT ALL.
