Share the Worst Job You've Ever Had
My worst job was working as an assistant manager, for a certain dollar store chain. You know the one, they have stores in run down strip malls usually not in the best part of town. They do that to get cheap rent. Safety for the employees is rarely their concern.
What Made This Job Your Worst Job - Ever
Headquartered here in the South, they treat their employees quite poorly. It was hell on earth. We would get a truck in every Saturday morning around 4 a.m. We had to have it unloaded and sorted by the time we opened at eight. We would always get twice as much as we ordered. The truck manifests only listed how many boxes, not their contents. Rarely did we get what we needed. Just lots and lots of junk. Then we would have to try and find room for all the junk they sent. It was utter chaos.
The beginning of the end came one evening when I got called into work. The store had been robbed. A man who had hidden before closing, held a knife to the throat of my third key. ( We often worked alone at closing.) He demanded she empty the cash register. When I arrived, all the company wanted to know was "how much did he take." They never once asked how the poor woman was. Nor did they care if anyone had been hurt. One day a company team came into our store and started tearing through our inventory, yelling "get it all out, put it anywhere." That day, I finally walked out, never to return.
Tips and Tricks
- I would never work for an outfit like that again! There is no way to make it better. They make all the rules.
