Share the Worst Job You've Ever Had
I worked as a Site Manager for a Health Region in Canada and my Director would display rudeness and aggressive behavior. She would berate other Managers, come to meetings unprepared and blame her issues on the "team." During one meeting she actually made another Manager cry, and this was a guy With 20 years experience dealing with the uions, nurses and the Hospital Boards. At a convention she picked up a guy from another group which was meeting at the same hotel and brought him back to her room for some after hours fun. The kicker is she was sharing the room with one of my peers on the Management team!
What Made This Job Your Worst Job - Ever
The feeling that no matter what you did to try to correct this, the Health Region would choose to stand by and watch good people be maltreated. I personally went to the Board and Senior Leadership several times with specific information which was ignored. Watching good people get beaten down and eventually have to leave for other employment. Never knowing who would be the "bitch of the week."
Tips and Tricks
- Once I laid down some rules as to what I would personally watch happen and what I would regard as a defacto dismissal things got better for me. (I actually went into the CEO's office and spelled out what was going on and how the team was being treated and told him that if this happened to me he would have my keys in the morning and my lawsuit in the afternoon.) The rest of the team was still treated very badly and eventually she was shunted aside then into a forced early retirement. I left that Region a few years ago for an employer I trust and respect.
