For me, one of the best innovations for the workplace of this decade has been the transformation of employee recruiting. I used to have to pay newspapers for classified ads and hope that someone with my needed qualifications turned up to read the paper that week.

What Made This Your Best and Favorite Workplace Event 

Recruiting will never be the same again. With the proliferation of the big job sites like Monster and Indeed, recruiting has moved online in recent years. The smaller niche job sites that are now appearing in every niche and in many regions, are also changing the way employers recruit employees. Add social media to the list; I get 5-10 job postings a week through LinkedIn. Online recruiting has changed the way employers develop their talent pool – forever. It is so much easier these days to develop a qualified talent pool.

Advice 

  • If you're not using social media and tapping into the social networks of your employees, you are missing a huge recruiting opportunity.
  • Wish I'd looked into more of the niche job sites and social media even sooner.
  • Your company website needs a recruiting section that "sells" your company and describes the job. This is the place you link for potential employees to learn more about the job and your company.
