Christmas Eve Luncheon Tradition

Reader Stories: How Readers Celebrate Holidays and Events in Their Workplaces

From Amy

What holidays and events do you celebrate at work

My company celebrates the holiday season, company birthday, halloween, and many other holidays that staff decide to organize something special for.

Describe how you celebrate a particular event

It has been a tradition since the start of the company to close at noon on Christmas Eve and take the entire company out for food and drinks. Family is invited to attend the lunch as well. It is a great time to mix with your co-workers and their families before all go their separate ways to celebrate. This event does not focus on Christmas. We tend to have the lunch at a place with something to do like pool, shuffle board, darts, etc. It is just a really nice event and employees can stay for as short or as long of a time as they like.

Tips and Tricks

  • It does get harder to keep the traditions going as the company gets larger. There are less and less places that are able to hold us.
  • Not everyone can make the event. We just explain that it is a tradition and it is understood that not everyone will be able to attend.
  • We have learned that going to a place that has activities for staff to do helps to increase the mingling of staff.
