Goals Must Rock Your Soul

By December 26, 2013

Follow me on:

Napoleon Hill said, "What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve." Thus, dreams are important. But, don't spend your life on little dreams. Define your purpose, your mission, your goals, and your direction. Think big dreams.

Are you willing to challenge yourself with some big goals this year? The term Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) was used by James Collins and Jerry Porras in their book, Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies (compare prices). A BHAG encourages an organization to accomplish goals that are longer term, visionary, emotionally compelling, and unifying for employees. I suggest that you need BHAGs for your life and career, too.

Most of us set goals as if we are creating an annual "to-do" list. Is it any wonder that these goals fail to rock our souls and demand our actions?

You can do better than this in 2014. Make this the year that you set BHAGs and watch your success and self-esteem soar. About.com's special goal setting and New Year's resolutions special resource will give your plans a boost.

Ten Day Success Program

In the Ten Days to a Happier, More Successful Career and Life, you will learn about how to set big goals, so you can achieve your purpose.

Take a look at Build a Strategic Framework: Mission, Vision, Values, Goals ... to create your fundamental purpose and life framework. Take a look, too, at how you can create your personal vision statement. These concepts and tools apply equivalently to yourself or to your business.

Gain access to the Ten Days to a Happier, More Successful Career and Life program via the website or subscribe to the emailed newsletter.

Now, I'm off to think about BHAGs for my life and career. Hope to see you there in the New Year.

Another post full of guidance, value and information that can assist anyone looking to improve their business or personal development.

Under the personal vision statement, one area I spend a great deal of time on is thinking about my legacy. How do I hope people will remember me? I am striving to create a legacy in which people will recall what I did for them, not myself. This is an area I believe all leaders should focus on.

Thank you for posting.

Wonderful insight into who to begin a new. I never really tried Goal setting seriously. Although, I had many resolutions which never worked out at the year end. This year I am going to follow your advise and see what happens.

Thanks a lot for sharing it with us a lot. It really means in very big way.
