Are you taking advantage of the overall value of service awards as a component of your organization's employee recognition processes and programs? I'll bet that you're not, if your experience echoes mine.

Service awards are a valuable component in an organization's overall employee recognition efforts. You just need to understand, value, and appropriately utilize service awards in your formal employee recognition mix.

Valuing and promoting service awards involves doing the activities and events that I recommend for any form of effective employee recognition. You are wasting your efforts with service awards if you don't follow these guidelines for effective employee recognition. Remember, too, that service awards, if you value employee retention, deserve a bit of pomp and circumstance.
