The new is here. Welcome to the new. Already celebrating with lots of traditions: delicious brunch and the annual Rose Bowl Parade, good bubbly at midnight, watching the ball drop in Times Square, about to write to my family, and taking the time to share thanks and appreciation with people who are near and dear to me this afternoon...

What's not to like about New Year's Day? How about you? What are you doing today?

For those who work, the start of the New Year is also a prime opportunity to assess your status and contribution at work. Thus, my new article asks the most important question of the year - are you on the list? If not, why not? And, what will you change to make that different this year? Is this your year to join the list?

In the spirit of traditions, my annual New Year's special includes lots of thoughts from other About.com Guides who write for the Business / Finance and the Jobs / Careers channels. Tomorrow, I'll post a poll that asks you to share the biggest, most significant challenges you expect to face this year. And, in the spirit of the New Year, let's share our resolutions and goals for 2013 - whichever rings your chimes. The act of writing them down gives you the power and commitment to accomplish them. Happy New Year. Make 2013 your best year ever.
