You hear it regularly from me, and especially at this time of the year, but your gift means more in terms of recognition and gratitude when it is accompanied by a note from the manager. The even-more-personal touch, the written reinforcement about the employee's contribution, is motivational and contributes to employee job satisfaction. I call it a big win.
