St. Patrick's Day, while superficially a religious holiday, is really a day on which everyone can celebrate the wearing of the green.
In workplaces I have visited, activity committees have served corned beef lunches to staff. One company bought everyone shamrock sugar cookies with green icing. Dozens of employees wear green to work and, those protesting, wear orange. As you know, I am a serious proponent of celebrating holidays at work. The spring holidays arrive this week with St. Patrick's Day.
So, today, I'm wishing you a happy St. Patrick's Day. We have some employees who are seriously into green beer. Yuck! The last time I remember drinking green beer was when I skied into Ann Arbor during the great blizzard of St. Patrick's Day in 1973.
We spent the Saturday afternoon drinking green beer at the legendary Pretzel Bell in front of the fireplace with all of the locals who had braved the storm. History and memories aside, I do hope you are doing something fun for the day in your workplace. And, if not this year, plan for next.
Celebrate Spring in the Workplace
For another example, pertinent this spring, a different client celebrates with an annual Easter egg hunt for employees' children that is fun and a good team building experience for all. Here are celebration ideas for the spring and summer holidays at work.
