People have annoying statements that they make in the workplace. No one believes them, but few question their legitimacy. Maybe that's because the rest of us talk in euphemisms, too. And, we share the need to run for cover ourselves rather than examine what's really being communicated. In my company, people say that we don't have enough resources to pursue a particular product or innovation.
What this really means is that the available resources have been allocated to products and innovation that are deemed more marketable and revenue producing in the short term. In other companies, this may mean something completely different as Scott Berkun suggests (Thanks Betsy Weber) in Things not to say...we don't have time.
Scott suggests: "we don't have time" is another euphemism for statements such as: "your idea stinks." "We don't have the money" is another statement I often hear as I move among companies.
What's your favorite euphemism? Do people in your workplace have common ways of communicating that are generally acceptable instead of speaking a harsher truth?

Happy Easter
I trust you are spending time with people you care about this weekend. Remember that traditions are also important in the workplace. You can celebrate annual holidays for motivation and team building.
