Tell, Sell, Consult, Join, or Delegate

Working with a group of managers weekly for much of the past year, we regrouped this fall, first as a team and then around the desired management development content. In small groups, the participants gave me feedback about what had been important to them from earlier sessions. Almost every group mentioned delegation. Specifically, they liked the model of delegation that I had given them.

Your leadership style is situational. Your leadership style depends on the task, the team or individual's capabilities and knowledge, the time and tools available and the results desired. Here is the tell, sell, consult, join and delegate leadership style model that the group found so useful.
