Innovative Solutions for Tough Times
Has your company devised innovative solutions for challenges small business faces? Business.com, the parent company of my client, Work.com, has created a contest. For the contest, small business owners and entrepreneurs who are responding to today's challenging economy with resourcefulness and creativity, have the opportunity to tell their story.
Business.com has launched a small business contest called What Works for Business with a grand prize of $10,000 for the most innovative business solution. There are $2,000 prizes for the winner of each category that include management, people, and sales and customer service. Daniel Kehrer, the editor for both services, has written a guide that tells small businesses how to enter the contest.
Since all of us have had more bad news than good news in recent months, I liked the fact that the contest focuses on telling what is working for your business in 350 words or less. How can your business survive and thrive in the coming months? If you have a positive story to tell, consider entering the contest by December 3, 2008. My company is entering and I can’t wait to share some of the solutions other companies share on this Web site.
I'm a judge in the contest and can't wait to read the entries. They should give me ideas for fresh articles on this timely topic.

Hi, I’m the community manager for Business.com. We’re very exciting to hear what your business is doing to solve tough business challenges. Some tips for making your entry as good as can be are:
* Think of the many tough problems your business has encountered during the recent recession and what you have done to solve them (Example: If you have fewer customers, what have you done successfully to draw more, follow up with your old customers, or gain referrals? What are innovative ways to get credit or funding? How do you keep employees motivated to produce more? How has good planning helped keep you afloat during the recession? What are effective low-cost marketing techniques? How does effective leadership help your business succeed? How can you increase sales and keep costs down during a recession? How can you invest intelligently now in order to further your business? How do you take advantage of a recession to do well?)
* Focus on positive solutions that have helped your business
* Remember when writing your entry to think about the “story” of your business - include the who, what, why, where and when - and add interesting media-worthy details that highlight the best of your business.
Good luck!
