Concealed Weapons Policy

In June, the Supreme Court struck down the Washington, D.C. ban on people keeping guns in their homes for self defense and returned the rights of gun ownership to individuals. Concealed weapons permits are available in approximately 48 states in 2008. But, as an employer, you can establish policies that prohibit weapons in your workplace. Here is a sample concealed weapons policy.

Most employee handbooks have a concealed weapons policy that provides for immediate employment termination should an employee bring a weapon to work. Weapons at work are generally regarded in the same category of offenses as if an employee has engaged in violent behavior with a coworker. In these cases, the normal progressive disciplinary action does not apply.
