Use LinkedIn for Recruiting Employees

Tuesday April 22, 2008
Employers are using LinkedIn and other social and professional networking sites to both network and recruit potential employees. I'll talk about networking and some additional options in an article soon, but for now, this current article focuses on how employers are using LinkedIn for recruiting employees.

Just one more tool in your recruiting toolkit, and a tool that many employers have only just begun to explore, LinkedIn is worth your time. I contacted real people who are recruiting on LinkedIn, through the LinkedIn "Answers" section. The value of the site for social and professional networking will only increase as many more millions of people profile themselves on LinkedIn. My profile is available on LinkedIn. Yours should be, too. It's a wonderful way to stay in touch with colleagues, recruit employees, receive answers to professional questions, and network with new colleagues.

I had just completed my profile, including a few recommendations, when a local HR consulting group contacted ME through LinkedIn’s InMail. As it happened, I was getting ready to start looking for new consulting opportunities, but she found me, and within a week I was on her payroll and busy as can be. I think LinkedIn has staying power (whatever that means in this cyber age) and is well worth investing the effort.

LinkedIn is a very powerful social networking tool for the business community. It is amazing how quickly connections can be made.

I created a LinkedIn group for training and HR professionals, within days over 100 people had joined! Check it out here
