HR Practices Do Impact Business Profitability

Thursday May 31, 2007
I wanted to call today's blog "assorted" but it felt like a really uncool and uninteresting title so I went with what the more thoughtful part of me recommended. But, "assorted" fits, too.

Just a heads up: A reader wrote to me over Memorial weekend asking for statistics in a number of areas for a proposal he was putting together. I've tried five times to respond to his request but his mailbox rejects my emails. So, if you contact me, and don't hear back, there usually is a problem since I do respond to all legitimate email.

Carnival of Human Resources

The new Carnival of Human Resources is up at 8 Hours & a Lunch. Deb Bowen brings her special brand of humor to the commentary on the Carnival. Actually, my interaction with Deb and the Evil HR Lady has reminded me that humor is, well, fun. I can get so darn serious about all of this business stuff. Here's the list of upcoming Carnivals if you'd like to submit a blog entry.

Profitability and HR Practices

For today, I read a most interesting article that summarizes a study that measures the impact of human resource practices including items such as motivation and employee involvement on a small- to mid-sized business's profitability. And, you guessed it. The more certain factors exist in an organization, such as hiring people who truly fit the culture, and not necessarily the position, the more profitable the business. This is worth your reading time. I know another blogger sent me this link, and I cannot for the life of me, remember who. Claim credit and I'll link your site.
