Celebrations for Motivation and Team Building

Sunday May 20, 2007
An Asparagus Festival in Northern Michigan is a great opportunity to build community in a small town. Since asparagus is on my list of top ten favorite foods, an asparagus festival sounded too good to miss. And yes, in case you're wondering, people, and their dogs, do dress up as asparagus spears for the parade and walking around town. They also wear asparagus spear hats and carry real and fake asparagus spears, too. The favorite color? Green, of course. The soup cookoff? Asparagus, of course. The brats dinner? Asparagus brats - what else?

Now, modify this for work. You can do an asparagus festival or honor any other vegetable, fruit, nut, or item important in your community - even your own company products. Employees at TechSmith hold a chili cook off every year and this was the first annual Oktoberfest in honor of the German versions of our products.

You have creative employees. Use this creativity to find fun and unconventional ways to maintain excitement and positive morale in the workplace. Spring and summer seasons and holidays bring lots of opportunities for motivation and team building celebrations - and workplace community building.
