Change Management Lessons From the Field

Thursday March 8, 2007
At a client organization, we're working on change management training. It's a company that is experiencing huge amounts of growth and change constantly. One of the managers posed a good question. He asked whether change management was as necessary these days since the company was constantly changing. The group's response was to list the five or six big changes that happened recently and did not go as well as they had hoped, for many of the reasons highlighted in the training materials.

I don't believe you ever grow past needing good information on change management. It is a universal, timeless topic, probably even more necessary when a company is constantly changing. I've surveyed site visitors in the past about their experience with change management, what works, what doesn't, what you can't do without, and so forth. As a result of the surveys, I wrote a series of practical articles about change management that are filled with the common sense thoughts of my readers and site visitors.

What has been your experience of change and managing change in your organization? Please respond in "comments" below.

regardless of how big is a change, how important is a change, who involve in the change, when is the change of what are the changes, Change management program is a must if you really whant this changes to happen. change management program is an essential to all level or people and organisation. Without realising we are daily using one of the core components of the change management program, namely communication plan. Why we have to communicate? We want everyone to support the change, therefore, it is our duty to provide the infrastructure to people in the organisation to aware and understand the important of the changes. Should any time you do not whan the changes to happen, you may choose not to conduct the change management program.

I agree with your recommendations on how to implement change in an orgaization. My experience has shown that most leaders and managers simply do not know how to provide effective communication. As in any relationship, we know that effective communicatin is imperative. I believe that it might be necessary to follow up this article by giving specifics on what effective communication is and is not. An unbelieveable number of leaders and managers are not equiped.
