Keep the People You Need in the Outsourced Economy

Thursday January 18, 2007
Several friends attended a meeting this morning at which an HR Consultant predicted that more people will stay in jobs they dislike because the economy in Michigan won't support them moving.

Another reader dropped me a note and asked why I always focus on managers (I don't), that there really are bad employees, and I need to focus on them because "it takes two to tango." This combination could be toxic in your workplace in upcoming years if you're not prepared for the possibility.

Retention of your best and brightest employees is a growing issue especially in the areas of science and technology. I would also argue that employees who are willing to be responsible, accountable, think, and make decisions are rarer than you might imagine, too. But, these are the employees you want to keep.

Today's guest writer, Mike Cook, focuses on the fact that more and more people are joining the outsourced economy. He believes that companies that treat employees as partners and think of employees as assets will retain employees in the future. See Keep the People You Need in the Outsourced Economy.
