Cell Phone Use Sample Policy

Sunday January 14, 2007
After talking with a friend in New York about their state law that prohibits cell phone use while driving, I added a small addendum to my new cell phone use sample policy. Even though studies show that any distraction (such as eating and putting on make-up) can cause accidents and indeed, even a complicated conversation while driving can lead to an accident, cell phones are one of the more visible distractions.

My prediction? More and more locales are going to ban cell phone use while driving or require that a hands-free method is used. In the meantime, I recommend a policy for your business that prohibits employees from using cell phones to conduct company business while driving.
