Build a Strategic Framework: Mission Statement, Vision, Values ... For Life, For Work

Sunday September 10, 2006
I was saddened recently to receive a note from a reader that stated she could see no reason why having a personal vision statement was important for her life or career. My recent poll about personal vision statements found more readers interested than not, I was happy to see. I am an immense fan of vision and mission statements that are actually lived. Both people and organizations need to establish a strategic framework for significant success. This framework consists of:
  • a vision for your future,
  • a mission that defines what you are doing,
  • values that shape your actions,
  • strategies that zero in on your key success approaches, and
  • goals and action plans to guide your daily, weekly and monthly actions.
