Harrah's Response in Katrina Aftermath Admirable

Monday September 5, 2005
Employer bashing is a tradition with some Americans - unfortunately. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, I am beginning to read beyond the first reports of the heartless Federal Government and the sadness and insufficiency of the pre-planning and preparedness for the entire Gulf Coast. Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. announces that its casinos are providing shelter for employee families and others affected by Katrina. Additionally, the 6,000 Harrah employees affected by the closure of casinos will be paid ...

their normal salaries for 90 days while the company assesses progress and prospects. CIGNA is offering employer counseling and early pharmacy services. Northrop Grumman Corp., that has about 20,000 employees on the Gulf Coast, paid employees through last week and plans to do the best they can following as does Lockheed Martin Corp. Other employers are trying to help their employees and others, too.
