Get Excited About Labor Day

Tuesday August 26, 2003

Celebrating holidays and marking special events with ceremonies appeals to the team building, community-loving side of my personality. Earlier this week, I introduced you to About resources for the Labor Day holiday and celebration. Today, I bring you additional web-based resources to help you understand and mark the day.

The Department of Labor website offers an excellent history of Labor Day about which, according to the website, Samuel Gompers said, "All other holidays are in a more or less degree connected with conflicts and battles of man's prowess over man, of strife and discord for greed and power, of glories achieved by one nation over another. Labor Day...is devoted to no man, living or dead, to no sect, race, or nation."
